With over 120 food stores and over 60 funeral branches, East of England Co-op colleagues really were at the frontline during the pandemic.

The business wanted to show its appreciation to colleagues who’d worked tirelessly throughout the year, as well as to its loyal customers for their continued support.

So, in 2021 the Christmas marketing campaign became all about saying thank you. Every single staff member was given gift vouchers and the employee discount was increased.

Working with the marketing, communications and events teams – and embodying the values of co-operation – the in-house studio created ‘Our Co-op Christmas Story’.

The following year, the business donated £100,000 from its marketing budget to help support local warm hubs and food banks, with the winter campaign ‘Your Co-op, making amazing things happen’ that ran for three months from the beginning of December. And the annual ‘Forgotten something?’ campaign was given a new lease of life with a series of stop-motion videos posted on social media channels.
